Four rounds of public workshops will be conducted at key points throughout this project. Each workshop will include an informal open house session, formal presentation, and/or interactive working session with the community. During the open house component, project team members will be available to talk with the public in a one-on-one, informal atmosphere.
These workshops will allow several opportunities for community members to have a voice in this planning process. The timing of these forums will coincide with the major milestones of the JLUS process.
Public Workshop #1. Explain the purpose and function of the JLUS, provide an overview of the military operations at APG, introduce project participants, share the JLUS approach and discuss the JLUS goals. The format of this meeting will include a presentation to the public followed by an interactive working session where attendees will be invited and encouraged to share their input on potential JLUS issues.
Public Workshop #2. Revisit the purpose and objectives of the JLUS, present preliminary compatibility issues and provide overview of future growth trends and potential military mission operations.
Public Workshop #3. Review, refine and prioritize compatibility issues and present information about existing policies and regulations for possible inclusion in recommendations and strategies. The JLUS Strategy Toolbox brochure will be distributed as part of this workshop and will be made available for download on the website for the public's information.
Public Workshop #4. Present conflict resolution strategies for solving the compatibility issues and receive comment and input on the solutions and strategies.
A Community Visioning session will be conducted to solicit and obtain a regional approach to identify common values and goals to be used in the creation and development of future plans and programs. The session will bring together and engage all demographic sectors within the JLUS communities to identify problems, evaluate changing conditions and build collective approaches to improve the quality of life for all throughout the region.
Two rounds of public hearings will be held in conjunction with the release of the Draft and Final JLUS reports.
Public Hearing #1. Present Draft JLUS and recommendations to attendees and explain the public review and input process. During the hearing, attendees will be solicited for input.
Public Hearing #2. Present Final JLUS report after the public comment period. The presentation will explain the overall JLUS methodology, including the identification of issues and strategies. This meeting will provide an overview of public comments received and address the revisions incorporated leading up to the Final JLUS.
